Project Juliette - Beitbridge.

Our skilled craftsmen design and build unique, tailor-made furniture pieces that perfectly fit your space and style. In our bigger projects, we tend to take everything concept to completion, as we wish to provide personalised solutions to bring your vision to life with exceptional quality and craftsmanship.

A beautiful, hidden gem nestled in Beitbridge.

We are excited to present a comprehensive interior design proposal that addresses your unique vision for Ms. Juliette. Our integrated approach combines structural interior design, bespoke furniture manufacturing, and carefully curated soft furnishings to create a truly unified and elevated space. We understand your desire for a space that is functional, modern, comfortable and reflective of your desired lifestyle.

Our goal is to transform your fixing the errors made by the architect and building contractors, adding a few timeless structural elements, making sure that the place is painted in colours that will stand the test of time and then furnishing with place with dominantly bespoke furniture pieces and carefully curated soft finishes.

This project is for a home that is 450sqm under roof and it features open plan living where the spacious lounge, dining room and kitchen are unified into one large space that leads to a large patio that is perfect for the modern day entertainer. It also features a grand master bedroom, a home office, a small but well-equipped gym, a guest suite and extra bedroom with a shared bathroom, scullery and pantry amongst other liveable spaces. On the exterior, there's a swimming pool enclosed in a glass and post style balustrade and covered with tarpaulin for safety; leading to a unique pergola as well as the cute little cottages in which the client houses the staff. We designed, repurposed, furnished and restyled the spaces while maintaining the overall classic ambiance of the architecture.

Imagination will often carry us into worlds that never were, and without it, we cannot live our dreams.

Once a client reaches out asking for an interior design consultation and subscribes to it, each project begins with a meeting at the client’s property to assess the existing layout and discuss what the client wants to achieve. This is an opportunity to learn about the client’s way of life and ensure that the final design is tailored to their exact requirements.

Initial budgets, timescales and the scope of work are  also discussed during this meeting, which is then followed up with a detailed proposal and fee estimate.

The project scope:

  • Structural interior design
  • Custom furniture manufacturing
  • Soft furnishings curation sessions

Budget and timelines:

  • Twenty-one days from deposit settlement
  • Budget will depend on client requirements

“We were astonished by the craftsmanship! Our custom-made furniture was more beautiful than we could have imagined, and the entire process, from design to delivery, was a pleasure. Highly recommend this manufacturer for quality, artistry, and exceptional service”

Ms. Juliette, Beitbridge.

Our skilled craftsmen use high-quality materials to create the customised pieces, ensuring that they meet the client’s specifications and quality standards.

When our team has seen the project site, we create a design scheme to meet the client’s requirements – this process is consistent, whether it is for ‘simple’ restyling of an already beautiful house, transformation of a single room or the complete restoration of an entire house, including bespoke bathrooms and kitchens, sourcing of furniture, lighting designs and audio-visual solutions.

However, the scheme is flexible in that it can be for a complete turnkey solution, where we provide all the materials and carry out all of the work, or it can be bespoke, where the client sources materials and utilises their own tradesmen.

Structural interior architecture:

Collaborating with you to create a refined layout and structural enhancements that optimise the flow, functionality, and architectural appeal, ensuring a strong foundation for the final design.

Custom furniture manufacturing:

Designing and crafting unique, high-quality furniture pieces that perfectly fit the space’s scale, style, and your functional requirements, ensuring seamless integration into the overall design.

Soft furnishings curation:

Selecting and sourcing the finest textiles, upholstery, and decorative items to add layers of texture, colour, and personality, completing the aesthetic and enhancing comfort.

We have a raised few concerns raised about the interior architecture.

Wall skimming

The most apparent problem was the inconsistency of the walls and the needed touch-ups on the ceiling. If possible, we should apply an extra layer of skimming throughout the house to correct as many flaws as we can, creating a smoother surface for the painters to work with. If we go ahead with painting the walls as they are now, the outcome will not be ideal. If you trust this painter, his work will turn out great once we properly prepare the walls.

Should he be the one to paint, he must bring his best team, as we aim for everything to be finished to a high standard.

Wall and floor tiles

Most of the floor tiles are in good condition; however, the bathroom tiles raise some concerns, and we recognise that replacing them at this point might be costly. If there were any leftover tiles, we would need to resolve this issue before proceeding to work on the other areas. We have a team of tilers who can take care of this if the original contractor had done a satisfactory job. Large-format, non-slip tiles with a matte finish are ideal for bathroom areas.

The open-plan living spaces are slightly lower than the entrance area, and while the tilers repaired the sections where those two areas meet, the quality of the work could have been improved. It would be beneficial if we could refine that spot, preferably by leaving just one seam instead of the two, which also includes a silver trim.

Kitchen design flaws

As experienced kitchen designers, we tend to notice details that others might miss. One thing that stood out to us is the mixture of design themes, which makes it hard to achieve the consistency and workflow needed for a modern, open-plan kitchen.
Shaker doors are a timeless classic, and handles add to their charm and traditional style. While it’s possible to try new ideas, push-to-open systems work better with plain, solid doors. The springs in these systems may wear out over time, but they can be replaced at a low cost, so this may or may not be a concern. Adding aluminium doors is a smart choice for a modern kitchen. However, in a light-coloured kitchen like ours, it’s important to create contrast. The inside of the glass cabinets should be a different, darker shade than the doors, with some streaks of the main colour to tie everything together. Illumination is an absolute must!

Lighting inside the glass cabinets and under the top cabinets will help keep the workspace bright, which is especially important with a black countertop. We also recommend removing the skirting under the top cabinets. The tall cabinet on the far right has a different style that does not match the new aluminium finishes.

The kitchen sink design and placement aren’t optimised well.

Why don’t we create a scullery?

I would like to suggest that the room you’ve designated as a store room could be even more valuable if it were used as a scullery. Its proximity to the main kitchen makes it highly convenient for daily tasks, while its discreet location ensures privacy and keeps household activities out of sight for guests. With a scullery in this space, you could include a washing machine, tumble dryer, kitchen sink, dedicated ironing area, and ample storage – creating an efficient and organised hub that supports both kitchen activities and laundry needs, all without disrupting the main living or entertaining areas.

Now for the part we have all been waiting for, drumroll please!

The front porch:

Designed as a transitional space between the indoors and outdoors, the front porch must always make an impression that lasts. as it provides a place for relaxation, socialising, and welcoming visitors. We’re going to set up two large vases and put in an artificial tree in each, then have extra-large sconces on the wall and a door mat.

The home office:

In order to establish a practical small home office, our goal is to create a stylish and minimalist environment featuring personal touches that boost both efficiency and creativity. We will include a clear glass desk, a medium-sized area rug, two accent chairs, cushions, an executive ergonomic chair, a small centre table, custom-built cabinetry, and a plant in a vase. The strong room wasn’t included in the original architectural design, so we will be accommodating it into our plans so to this effect, we will incorporate a couch and a television.

The entryway:

“The foyer” refers to either an entrance area in a residence or a central hall in public buildings such as theaters or hotels, acting as a transitional area and a welcoming spot that establishes the ambiance for the interior spaces. We plan to showcase a round, brown wooden table topped with a large vase filled with artificial flowers, accompanied by a round rug beneath it to promote a sense of flow in the home, allowing our guests and residents to move in any direction. The wall on the left will feature wainscoting and a sizable portrait.

The utility room:

A utility room serves as a practical area in a residence that contains important equipment like the solar system, water heaters, along with major appliances, including washing machines and dryers, often functioning as a laundry space and a storage area for cleaning products. Given that this space is situated in front of an open wall, it will need to act as a feature, also serving as a secondary entry point to our client’s private living areas. Together with the cabinetry that will hide the unsightly, we propose incorporating a large mirror shaped like Africa to make a statement and reflect our local heritage. This will be complemented by a console table, a single vintage chair, and a potted artificial plant.

Hallway:

Wainscoting is decorative paneling applied to interior walls to enhance visual appeal. It adds style, character, and a sense of depth to any area, so we plan to put it on the wall to the left of the hallway that leads to the master suite. Furthermore, we will add battery-operated wall sconces with warm lighting to reduce the brightness of the ceiling lights. This helps avoid disorientation for those who wake in the middle of the night.

Master bedroom:

The bedroom serves as an ideal sanctuary to escape the pressures of daily life. A master bedroom suggests a singular purpose – it is designed for the homeowner or the master of the residence. It is generally more spacious and is better appointed than other bedrooms in the house.

We plan to install an opulent headboard, base, luxury bench, and a pair of nightstands along the north wall. In the area between the curtains, we will place an elegant console table that will serve as a coffee station for the bedroom. A sleek, understated television stand will be positioned to face the bed for the client’s viewing pleasure. Additionally, a sizable dresser will be included in this area since we didn’t spot a full-length mirror in the walk-in closet. It will be situated next to the door. The walls will feature wainscotting and block-out linen curtains.

Walk-in closet:

The modifications being contemplated in this area are entirely optional and can be based on the client’s preferences. We can either replace the clear glass on the windows with frosted glass or add blinds to the designated space. Our closet boards are white, and the consoles with aluminium doors currently do not have lighting. If desired, we can install lighting and switch the upright boards to a darker shade for contrast, or change the glass colour. It all depends on the client’s inclinations.

En-suite bathroom:

Our primary worry in this space was the wall tiling and the arrangement of everything. Most of the floor tiles are in decent shape; however, the bathroom tiles present some issues, and we understand that replacing them now could be expensive. If there are any spare tiles available, we will need to address this matter prior to moving forward with the other areas. We have a tiling team that can handle this if the original contractor performed adequately. Large-format, non-slip tiles with a matte surface are the best choice for bathroom spaces.

We have discussed the dimensions of the shower cubicle, the height of the shower faucet, and ways to optimise the drainage system with the plumber. Additionally, we might benefit from a larger, more striking his and hers vanity station that incorporates three battery-operated sconces for excellent ambience and to help prevent disorientation at night. We’re uncertain about the positioning of the toilet seat, as there is excessive space between it and the wall, which could create discomfort when reaching for toilet paper.

The lounge:

A lounge is a shared area in a house intended for leisure and social interaction, typically containing comfortable seating such as large sofas and armchairs. It acts as a main meeting point for family and friends, encouraging activities like watching movies, playing games, or having discussions, and is generally the first room guests encounter when they enter the home.

The dining area:

A dining room is a designated area, often found in a house or public venue, specifically created for the purpose of enjoying meals. It is generally equipped with a dining table and seating, and is frequently positioned close to the kitchen to make it easier to serve food. Although it was traditionally utilized for formal gatherings, today’s dining room serves a range of purposes, with some individuals using it for everyday meals and others reserving it for special occasions.

Guest bedroom – one:

A guest bedroom is an extra room in a house or hotel set aside for guests to sleep. It provides a private area for overnight visitors, ensuring comfort and convenience that surpasses temporary setups, and it can also serve other functions, such as an office, when not in use by guests. In this space, we have a luxury headboard as opposed to the other one, which had something more basic but beautiful and functional.

Kitchen (new build):

This might be an option to consider, but we have come up with an alternative that might work.

Kitchen (facelift):

Once we run an assessment, we can maintain the main carcass and change all the front doors so that our kitchen isn’t dominantly yellow but light grey. In certain places, we’ll change it into something tinted and will illuminate it in the glass cabinets. We will also create the juice bar and change the countertop to plain white and tile the backsplash.
